A memorial service will be held for Melvin P. Handsaker, 75, of Coos Bay at 2 p.m. Friday, April 6, at North Bend Chapel, 2014 McPherson Ave., with Lee Taft, of Rushing Wind Christian Fellowship, officiating. Cremation rites were held at Ocean View Crematory in Coos Bay.

Melvin was born March 23, 1937, in Toledo, Ore., the son of Melvin and Eleanor (Patton) Handsaker. He died April 1, 2012, in Coos Bay.

Melvin worked doing farm work as a teenager then as a logger and mill worker as an adult. He grew up in a family that liked to hunt which he enjoyed and was a crack shot. He enjoyed reading and his favorite reading material was westerns. He liked western movies and animals.

Melvin is survived by two daughters, Roxanne R. Handsaker of Dallas and Ruth Anne Handsaker of Roseburg; and three sons, Ross H. Handsaker of Coos Bay, Shayne B. Handsaker of Dallas and Dwayne R. Handsaker of Roseburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Mary Anne, Betty, Janet and Barbara; and his brother, Richard.
