A memorial service for Sylvia A. Houseman, 85, of Coos Bay will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 17 at Coos Bay Chapel, 685 Anderson Avenue in Coos Bay. Private inurnment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Coos Bay.

Sylvia was born February 14, 1932 (a valentine baby) to Don and Isabelle McCrary in Coos Bay. She passed away November 12, 2017 in Coos Bay.

Sylvia attended Marshfield High School, graduating in 1950. After graduation, she married Chuck E. Houseman and was a homemaker and loving mother to six children, two sons and four daughters.

She volunteered at the North Bend Senior Center as a hostess, cook and decorator for six years before her health prevented her from continuing. She was known for her gardening skills, and grew vegetables and fruit on any plot of land she owned. She was a longstanding member of the United Church of God, where she was loved and warmly accepted. She was known for her cooking skills in her congregation and very well appreciated by the members. She will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by her congregation and by all who knew her and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Bruce W. Houseman; four daughters, Phyllis J. Owens, Bonnie J. Kuhn, Alice A. Blayne-Allard, Amy L. Buckley; brother, Gary McCrary; sister, Donna Fischer;  twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, whom all loved and adored her.

She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Phil (Phillip G. Houseman).
