August 24, 1956 ~ April 24, 2017 (age 60) 60 Years Old

A memorial service for Dean Metcalf Frisbee, 60, will be held from 5pm- 8pm, Sunday, July 30 at the Lake Theater Café, 106 N. State Street in Lake Oswego. Please bring memories, stories and good cheer. We will raise a glass to Dean!

Dean Metcalf Frisbee was born in Portland,Oregon, August 20, 1956.  He died peacefully at his home in Lakeside, Oregon, April 24, 2017.  He was 60 years old.

Dean was the youngest child of Don and Emilie Frisbee.  He grew up in Dunthorpe, attending Riverdale School and Lake Oswego High School.  Activities he enjoyed were Boy Scouts, skiing and playing in the neighborhood woods.  He attended Southern Oregon College.

Dean had a life of varied experiences, adventures and challenges.  His curious mind led him to learning and talking about history and machines (cars, boats and trains).  He was always repairing or rebuilding a vehicle or two. He worked as a cabbie and a school bus driver.  He invested in real estate.  He also did carpentry and yard work in the small coastal communities where he lived.

Later in life he took up craft arts, ceramics, woodworking and painting.  He recently planned to finish writing a mystery novel and make wooden spinning tops for sale at local craft fairs.

Dean was warm, kind, generous and had an astute sense of fairness. He had several long time friends and companions.  Unfortunately, his mental illness affected his relationships and he suffered private remorse for these conflicts.

Dean enjoyed fishing, lake swimming and a good story.  His laugh was contagious. His eyes would scrunch up with delight and his shoulders would shake when one of life’s ironies struck him as funny.  As his cousin Eric wrote, “he saw the world as a mystery to be delighted in.”

Dean lived a life that mattered and his family cared deeply about him.  He was pre-deceased by both Don (2015) and Emilie (2003).  He is survived by his sister, Ann Naymie, and two brothers, Robert and Peter Frisbee and his friend, Susie Henning.

Private cremation rites were held at Ocean View Memory Gardens in Coos Bay.

Arrangements are under the care of Coos Bay Chapel, 541-267-3131.

Friends and family are encouraged to sign the online guestbook.
