Charles Hadley Margerum II
July 2, 1965 – August 14, 2017
A gathering to celebrate the life of Charles H. Margerum II, 52, of Coos Bay, will be held beginning 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 23rd at the Coos Bay Eagles Lodge, 568 S. 2nd Street. A private scattering of his ashes in the Coos River, near his home, will precede the celebratory gathering. Private cremation rites were held at Ocean View Memory Gardens in Coos Bay.
Charles, known as “Charley” to many of his friends and loved ones, died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest while working with his Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) crew on August 14, 2017 in Lakeside. He was born on July 2, 1965, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to Robert Alfred Margerum Sr. and Elizabeth (Turner) Margerum.
Charley graduated from Winston-Salem schools and attended Appalachian State University. He started his work career with AT&T as a field engineer and traveled to Alaska, the Aleutian Islands, Newfoundland, Bermuda, Whidbey Island and finally Coos Bay. He joined the ODOT in 1997 and worked as a transportation maintenance specialist.
Charley loved Oregon and the many friendships he established through the years. He was especially close to his companion Ms. Laura Bynum’s daughters, Scylise and Ashley, and to his dear friend, Uncle Frog. He was an active member of the Eagles Club and loved to fish with many of it’s members.
Charley is survived by his father and stepmother, Robert and Judith Margerum, of Pfafftown, North Carolina.
Charley was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Margerum and siblings, Robert Jr. and Rebecca.
Friends and family are encouraged to sign the online guestbook at www.coosbayareafunerals.com and www.theworldlink.com. Charley’s family, far away in North Carolina, would like to thank the many people of Coos Bay who provided them with support and solace at a very difficult time. Arrangements are under the care of North Bend Chapel, 541-756-0440.
