Arne "Peter" Berge Jr.

December 27, 1952 ~ July 8, 2017 (age 64) 64 Years Old

A celebration of life service for Arne “Peter” Berge Jr., 64, of Eastside, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 22 at The First Baptist Church, 1140 S 10th St., in Coos Bay with pastor Don Berney, of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship, officiating.

Peter was born Dec. 27, 1952 in North Bend to Eunice Louise (Movic) Berge and Arne Peter Berge Sr. He passed away July 8, 2017 in Coos Bay.

He grew up on Sherman Avenue in North Bend, exploring the railroad tracks with his lifelong buddies. He was a boy scout and delivered newspapers as a boy in North Bend. Peter graduated from North Bend High School in 1971. After high school, Peter joined the U.S.Navy serving on the USS Hancock deployed to overseas locations such as the Philippines, among others and was honorably discharged in 1975.

Peter met Lori West and they married June 8, 1974 in North Bend. Peter and Lori settled in Eastside and had two daughters, Jody and Jennifer. Peter was a constant vision in the Eastside neighborhood for 43 years and many have fond memories of him.

He was a beloved UPS delivery driver in Coquille and Myrtle Point for 20 years, having the same route for all those years. He was featured in the local papers several times for always bringing a smile to the people he met along his route. A back injury cut his time at UPS shorter than expected but the people and the area held a special place in his heart always.

In Peter’s words, he “loved life and loved people," no one was a stranger in Peter’s eyes. He loved cruising the coast and exploring Coos County. He also enjoyed the beach, crabbing, fishing, going up the river, bicycling, mountain climbing, chess, hiking, and antiques. Peter entered several bicycle races in Eugene and enjoyed his Sunday bike rides around the bay with his family. He had climbed several mountains in the Cascade Range with his brothers. He loved restoring old cars, especially Volkswagen bugs. Peter relished in his younger years, time spent with his family in Seaside, and later making memories with his own wife and daughters in the coastal town. He loved to tell stories about his life adventures and was extremely proud of his Norwegian heritage.

He will truly be missed by all family and friends.

Peter is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lori Berge of Coos Bay; daughter, Jody Rollins and husband, Shane of Cove, Ore.; daughter, Jennifer Berge and significant other, Tad Worthington of Coos Bay; four grandchildren, Sienna Berge and Drake Worthington of Coos Bay, Kade and Kallista Rollins of Cove; brother, Cordell Berge and wife, Maja of Portland; sister, Andrea Berge and niece, Heidi; and brother Rockne Berge and wife, Linda of Junction City.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eunice Louise Movic Berge Brewster; stepfather, Frank Brewster; and father, Arne Peter Berge Sr.

Arrangements are under the care of Coos Bay Chapel, 541-267-3131.

Friends and family are encouraged to sign the online guestbook.
